B i o g r a p h y

Yoav Levy is an Israeli composer, currently living in Haifa, Israel.           

His work includes pieces for acoustic instruments, and frequent use of electronics as well.

Yoav studied composition at the Jerusalem academy of music, where his main teachers were Tzvi Avni (undergraduate) and  Amnon Wolman (Graduate), and at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Soloklasse/Meisterklasse) studying with composers Ming Tsao and Gordon Williamson, as well as individual guidance by composer Chiyoko Szlavnics. 

Previous and future collaborations with performers include solo pieces for Klaus Lang (Harmonium, T'zlil Meudkan commission), Andreas Mildner (Harp), and for ensembles such as Nikel ensemble (Impuls festival commission) Schallfeld (Oper Now commission), ensemble Ascolta, ensemble SEV (Isr), Musica Nova (Isr) and Airborne Extended (Austria) . 

Yoav is a recipient of a scholarship from “America- Israel Cultural Foundation” for the 2014-2017 years in the field of music composition, recipient of the "Prime Minister's prize for composition (2019), the Siday Fellowship for Musical Creativity 2020-2022, the Förderkreis der HMTMH for 2021, and support from the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung in 2021-2022.

Yoav took part in the “Tedarim” project with the “Meitar” ensemble during the years 2014-2016, which included commissioning 6 new compositions from Yoav, all funded by the Adle and John Gray Endowment Fund, Dan Yakir and Project Alex, and premiered by the ensemble.
